Carer support groups give time for carers to socialise, share information & offer support.
They are so normalising.
At various stages of our lives, most people have experience of being a carer. The types, levels and amounts of caring required can vary greatly and supporting a person with dementia may have additional issues to overcome. Hence why the Essence Service provides this much needed space and time for carers at our get togethers.
The next drops in are:
Thursday 7th February 2019, 1pm til 3pm
Thursday 7th February, 4:30pm til 6:30pm
Both will be held at The Essence Service, Sir Thomas Allen Centre, Mill Hill Road, Doxford Park, Sunderland, SR3 2ND.
Carers are not obliged to to stay the full 2 hours, the sessions are on a drop-in basis.
TO NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO PEER SUPPORT GROUPS IN JANUARY.
We will be providing some light refreshments and aim to keep the groups as informal as possible. We want people to feel relaxed.
In recent months, qualified therapists have attended the sessions offering relaxing treatments to carers with positive benefits.
We also had a visit from the Sunderland Carers Centre in November. Their Carers Assessment Workers gave us information on how to access a carers assessment, as well as the benefits, etc. It was useful and helpful.
Please come along, it would be great to see you there.
Comments from carers who have attended our past groups have included how isolated and alone they sometimes feel. Knowing that they can meet and be supported by others going through the same thing has been a great comfort once they have taken that first step to come along.
